Default Borgeson Box Availability

I checked on the availability of Borgeson boxes for our C3 yesterday. They almost never seem to be in stock anywhere, and when back ordered have long delivery times.

So to get the real story I spoke to their product manager at Borgeson. They are making them as fast as they can get good cores. Output is roughly 150 units per month. The real issue is there are 600 backorders on their list, so if you order one today, that is at least a 4 month wait.

The real problem is the slow availability of the correct jeep core box, to rebuild. They produce 13 different part numbers from that jeep box core, only one of which is for a Corvette. Some of the other applications, like 55-57 Chevies, have much higher demand than a C3.

Just plan far ahead, and be prepared to wait.

Unless you get really lucky and find one in stock somewhere, at some Distributor.

Grab it quick!

You're right about the backorders. It also is a problem with other parts as well, Eaton for example.

Last week my tranfer case went out in my Jeep Cherokee at 60,000. Only had it a few months. Got an estimate, $2,000 installed for a "used" unit. New units were all back ordered. I sold it back to CarMax and ate the $2,500 lost. It could of been worst....

If you can’t fix the old, you’re forced to buy new.
What a concept.
I wonder who came up with this idea???

Yes but we are certainly not forced to put jeep parts in out Corvette's. But replacement parts for our Corvette's are indeed horrible.

I have a chevelle 406 and a mont SS trans going in mine so the saginaw "jeep" box I have wont be alone..

Seriously though, I'm happy with my borgeson upgrade and I believe theres a good reason these are backordered.. I am curious if these upgrades are popular for the 60s mustangs and Cougers that used the same steering setup? Sounds like it from the comments above.

I should sell my surplus, road-tested box on eBay. I was going to save it for AutoXing the car, but $2K is $2K....

90 listings on eBay right now, and not a single one is for the Borgeson power steering box. Only manual boxes, and related parts.

I just checked online with 5 big distributors, No stock. C. Central, Topflight, Zip, Summit and Jegs.
No Corvette P.S. Boxes in stock.
A couple had estimated availability in Oct to Nov
Some said 2 weeks, but said that was for "most backorders" LOL not these!

Sometimes you get lucky. I had meant to order the Borgeson P/S kit for my car after Co-Vid supply back logs hit and never got around to it. Thought I missed the boat again as Tariffs were announced in April. I called and emailed around yesterday as I'm digging into the car a fair bit
currently and found it backlogged in a lot of usual and unusual places. the I plugged the PN into Ebay and I just got it for the same price as last year, from Jegs via Ebay, yesterday!

Back orders do suck. I run between 85 and 100 vehicles a month though the shop and I am always waiting on something. There is no manufacturer better than the other they seem to have the same issues.

As far as the Borgeson goes it must be a Jeep thing....I feely admit I don't understand lol.

its strange the conversion kit 999017 still shows avaiable from a few vendors including ebay but the upgrade kit 999032 is harder to get and always on back order,
I ordered the manual to PS conversion kit a few weeks ago and had it in a few days, installed it Sunday... and they both use the dame box.

If anyone is looking for a borgeson box, there are three numbers to check.
The box itself is the same in all three, just the extra parts vary:

800108 box only
999032 SBC & BBC for PS conversion, no pulleys
999017 SBC man steer conversion, with pulleys
I do not even see the BBC man steer conversion kit listed anymore, you'll have to piece it all together

Borgeson has no stock on any of these. You will have to find one of them in stock somewhere from a stocking distributor..
There are at least a dozen vendors you could check with.

Check out this Ebay Seller. They apparently have stock manufactured from new castings and internals. 13:1 ratio on a power box. Looks just like a Borgeson.
