They are Eaton numbers for identification and or production processing. You would need an Eaton cross-reference document to define what GM part numbers where that unit was used.
Someone in NCRS may have specific knowledge of that thermo unit.
The 1969 AIM will provide the GM part number for that thermo unit (engine section A3). For 1971 base engine, that part is P/N 3916139. IDK if that is the same unit used for 1969 or not.

Bill,

The Eaton date codes are something that I’m not super familiar with, but I can tell you that the format in the 1968-1972 range typically has a single letter code for the month, a one or two digit number for the day, and a single letter code for the year. I think that the month codes run consecutively beginning with A… And while I can’t tell you all of the year codes, I do know that 1969 is J. Someone like Dan Kirkconnell or Fred Oliva could probably recite this info in their sleep… I would reach out to one of those guys and you’ll probably get your answer.

For what it’s worth, that style of fan clutch was used was used only on base engine cars and some early L-88s. It was also installed (incorrectly) on the first group of 1969 L-88M-40 cars as was part of a list of items replaced under recall.

Regards,

Stan Falenski
