I have been on a bunch of websites to tell me if .010 of a inch is to tight on my sbc hei mainshaft end play..the answers are all over the place..some yes some say no..what is the answer??

Cast distributors are best set to .005 -.007
Aluminum distributors are best set to .010-.015

That's correct. But a little extra slop really won't hurt anything - these are not absolute specs, but "nice-n-tight" is good. You just don't want to have the slop up in the 1/8" range....
