Default What is this wire for?

Helping a friend with her -71 Corvette LS5. I found this wire loose on the right side of the carb. Can someone tell me what it is for? Thanks.

Probably for the electric choke. That round black housing on the side of the carb has a missing connection. That is the electric choke device. That wire should have power only when the key is in the run position.

Hello,

I see that wire disappearing around the rear of the engine.
Can you tell how long it is and where it goes?

That's an unusual connector.
It's used on the transmission.
Maybe elsewhere?

Looks like the brake warning light wire located on the brake proportioning valve located on driver's side frame rail below the master cylinder

Looks like the 4sp transmission TCS switch plug. Should run down the firewall to the transmission.

That's what I think too. Alan shows a picture of it on the trans. Transmission Controlled Spark:

TCS: transmission controlled spark, an emission device that controls the operation of the distributor vacuum advance. When the engine is below 63 degF or above 232 degF, or the transmission is in 1st or 2nd gear, the solenoid will block the full vacuum signal to the distributor. The signal is not blocked for 15 seconds after starting the engine to prevent stalling. The TCS system is not required unless you are seeking originality or need to pass an emission test.
