Your gas tank needs a way to vent. Stock it vents through the evap canister. If you block everything you need a vented gas cap. The system has no effect on performance.
From: At my Bar drinking and wrenching in Lafayette Colorado
I can't think of a single good reason to block off a functional evap canister system, other than that your garage will smell like gas after shutdown (for those who like that musclecar gas smell in the garage).
Mine is currently not connected to my PCV tee (tee is capped off on the engine side of course).. The other side on the charcoal canister side is still open to air and I don't have the gas smell in the garage. I don't have any problems.
I disconnected mine years ago. I park in a tiny one garage. No fumes. No issues.
Reason why I am asking is I have a vacuum leak even after replacing the lines to the cannister and every vacuum line in this vehicle.... the only remaining one is I believe is at the vent on the tank and at 70 years old I not capable of removing the tank to replace it.... thanks

If all accessible hoses have been replaced it could be your rollover vent valve at the tank is cracked or the short rubber hose are shot. It is a bear to get to though. On my 1971 is on the front top of the tank on the drivers side.
A 78 L82 4spd idle should be set at 900rpm . Why do you want to change it ?
Thanks for your advice.....I know that the idle should be at 900 but, it's more a question of vacuum leaks than the idle speed..... vacuum loss equals weak mixture which is more important to me....

I see what you mean.....thank you very much for sharing this diagram, appreciate it man....

Hello 78 silver, I am almost 75 and just dropped my tank, replaced hoses and reinstalled. Not as tough on our old bodies as it may appear.
