Anybody else have an issue with after locking your seats into place or adjusting your seat and it’s locked into place you can still move your seat back-and-forth about a 16th of an inch…. I just noticed this today and I wondered as anybody else ran into this and what was your fix?
The lower tracks have a sequence of slots in them and there's a "plunger" in the upper track that locks into the desired slot. Does the movement happen in all slots or just one? If all slots, the plunger is probably worn or has a loose pivot point.
This is a pic of the typical C3 adjuster track mechanism:
Well if it really bothers you. Pull the seat out, just 4 bolts. Easy with the T top off. Turn the seat over and examine the track and the locking mechanism. Perhaps the pivot on the locking arm is worn? Pretty easy to check.
So after reading the last post, I thought I'd go out and check mine. Mind you I've had my car since Christ was a Corporal. (My car is a 77, same seats).
So I sat down in my car. Parked in gear. Rocked the seat forward and aft. Yup. Seat of the pants I'd say approximately 1/16th inch movement.
I'd guess if they made that stop any tighter one might have trouble getting it to slot into place.
All these years and I had never noticed or paid any attention to it.
Oh, and my fix?
If it's been like this for 49 years. And even after rebuilding the seats a few years ago. I'm thinking it's just going to stay this way.
Well then I guess you’re right it was made this way….. I didn’t notice until I swapped my C3 seats out for C5 seats… I guess after you make a modification, you always noticed the little things…. I thought for a moment I had done something wrong, but apparently not. thanks again for your information. It’s in valuable as always…
