You would need to drill at least 2 holes for fasteners to hold it down. On the vert it appears they are using the 2 holes in the rear deck where the top attaches. This is an idea to protect the cockpit for short times when you don’t feel like putting the rag top up. And that cover would not be the correct dimensions for a coupe. Not sure what benefit would be in a coupe.
I like to drive to the park…in Florida….. where you’ll find… seagulls… and pigeons… and I don’t feel like putting those tea tops on every time I pull over for 10 or 15 to 30 minute walk…. I don’t know if you know the tricks of the young…. but kids will actually come by convertibles and throw potato chips out around your convertible…. and you can guess what you come back to…. it isn’t pretty… but where I go I can actually see my car in every direction that I walk in. I just couldn’t get to it quick enough to get the top on if they threw the potato chips out or whatever… not to mention seagulls passing by… or the pigeons or the squirrels hopping in your car…been there done that. But that’s the reason….I can actually come up with a soft strap for the rear…I might just make my own,,,I didn’t know if someone has this particular cover, I called Eckler Support… and ask them the question about the coupe versus the convertible… they informed me that people buy it for both… I don’t know how true that is, but I guess that’s why I’m trying to find someone who’s tried it…then again…maybe popping the tops on isn’t bad either..just a PITA…..LOL..
Ohhh that’s cool, I have several old covers…got a photo?? Great idea, thanks.
I'll pull it out this weekend and snap some better photos. This is all I have right now.
Still have to figure out the attachments but the mirror pockets help a lot. I'm going to figure out some sort of clips that go on the convertible deck lid or even where the convertible pins go it. Haven't really messed with it. I use it when I park outside to keep leaves and stuff out so I don't have to vacuum. I just put the old cover on and went wild with the scissors leaving enough material where it can be seamed together. Need to find a good seamstress.
Thank you so much for sharing…. I do have a car cover that I’m not using from a car we sold a while back… I think I’ll toss it over the vette, draw a line with a sharpie and go wild with some scissors and have a seam put around it.
If any of you that are doing this have issues with some sides flapping around and no place to attach it, we used to put small lead weights or aquarium rocks inside the hem itself at certain points. Like maybe on the sides. The only thing you need to be wary about is if it rains. Rain will puddle very quickly and will tear the cover, or pull out whatever fasteners you have and then the cockpit will get flooded. But for a sunny day to keep leaves or potato chips out, you are on the right track. Looking forward to the finished product.
I'll probably put a few eyelets holes along the bottom and string a cable under the car like on a normal car cover. I'll only use it in the driveway so I'm not worried about is blowing away or getting stolen.
I had a few when I had a couple Cobras and they had an elastic strap that went around the mirrors (if you have a passenger side mirror) and an elastic strap with a plastic padded hook on each side in the rear to hook into the rear wheel well... kept it pretty much in place

thanks for the inspiration.
I had that form fitting cover for my C3 since I bought the car. It was the previous owners. I bought a real nice outdoor cover because when my oldest started driving (he's 26 now) I gave him my DD and drove the Vette to work for over a year. I used my nice outdoor cover at work every day. I had this old cover laying around and never used it again. One day I parked in the driveway with the top down and came out only to find a pile of leaves on the seats and floor. I remember "Ferguson Tops" as they are known by used to exsist. I search and found some but not for C3 Vette specifically. They used to be available for C3's but I guess they are not produced anymore. Some vendors have it for late model Vette convertibles so I guess they would work and I almost bought one when I realized I had an old cover in the garage. The rest is history and I have a form fitting Ferguson Top for my C3 when it's done. Now you've motivated my to finish this project.
I had an old car cover that had never been used. I ttossed it over the Vette, drew a pattern around the car, Cut it out with scissors… now I’ll take it to the Upholster shop, Have it bound, And the loops installed at the proper points.. and I should be good to go..
I’ll post the final product as soon as I’m finished thanks again for all your help…
let me know what you think….
