Rebuilding my early 1976 L48 and wish to set the cooling system up as stock since from what I read it seems like cooling system works best as stock. I want to buy a seal kit but every major corvette dealer ( Ecklers, Top Flight, ect ) tells me it is out of stock for a early 1976 without air conditioner. Now I can get the kit for an early 76 with air conditioning and want to ask if there is that much difference that the kit for the AC would not work? I have read that I could get foam from the local hardware for a fraction of the price but I would rather just buy the kit and be done with it. So is the AC kit doable before I spent the coin? Thanks in advance for any responses.
Hello,
Have you checked with Dr.Rebuild.
He can be difficult to deal with but generally has a very good supply of 'soft parts'.
Again... be prepared for a bit of an 'experience'!!
Regards.....
Here's an example:
Buy it Now- Dr REBUILD's Corvette Parts ------------ MODEL -----------------------------
Part #
Y Early 76 except L-82 or AC Radiator Seal 5 Piece Set Includes LH and RH upper horizontal seals with pre-punched mounting holes, lower horizontal seal, plus LH vertical side seal with 2 pre-punched mounting holes and RH vertical side seal with 3 pre-punched mounting holes. All have PSA. Uses 7 PIF
Come on, lets cut the guy some slack. DocRebuild sells some of the best replacement parts you can get and I have never had one fall short. His vacuum hose set is 30+ old, looking new and working great. They have lasted longer than the GM factory hoses did on my 1968 C3.
I would be a tough person to be around after dealing with some of the Corvette folks I have met at Corvettes@Carlisle. If you treat him nicely then you will likely get that in return is what normally works with most people.
