Default Fan shroud install.....

Rebuilding my early 1976 C3, manufacture date 2/76. Always had an overheating problem so I decided to put the cooling system back to stock since from what I read these things run the coolest when stock. Ordered an early shroud from Ecklers and the seals from Dr Rebuild. All parts for an early 76 fit but this fan shield is all but easy. Had a sticker on it that said " prefit before painting ". The problem I have is that I can make this thing fit but I would need to do some serious cutting out to clear the bottom frame to allow this thing to slip down enough to clear the bottom frame and tilt the rad frame into place to secure with the side bolts. Then there is the problem with the clips that secure the shroud not linning up at all. Seals? Well those are a long shot. When in place the shroud does line up with the center of the engine. So my questions are when using aftermarket shrouds, do they usually require some major altherations to fit???? Would like to know before I go sawing on a $350 part. I can probably fabricate some brackets to secure the shroud but has anyone had this problem in the past and how did you secure it? Tried to take some pics to show what I got.

Did you measure the core width in order to determine early or late?
26.25" early, 27.5" late.

I had a problem installing the radiator shroud on my 1970, I finally figured out it was due to the car sitting on jack stands. Once the weight of the car was sitting back on the wheels the shroud fit. The weight of the motor must of flexed the front end, causing the shroud from fitting properly.

The shroud change came with switch to the R4 compressor & '77 radiator. That didn't happen until May '76...you're definitely early.

Looks wise it's different than mine that's also early. No holes for the two upper brackets...

I’ve found it’s significantly easier to install the shroud before the radiator. No way you can get it around the control arms otherwise.

Hello,
Here are the shroud mounting brackets for a small block, 4-speed, no a/c car
Perhaps they give you some ideas for mounting your shroud.
Maybe?
Regards....
