Probably asked a hundred times. Does the 1972 tilt / tele column have a key position counterclockwise from "lock"? Mine clicks 2 times clockwise, then I get start.
Mine will turn backwards to the acc position.....sometimes. 😔
Thanks, I wanted to be sure it was supposed to do that before I chase it and make it worse. Im goimg to try the cable that connects to the trans and see if its related at all, then go from there. Does your steering wheel lock?

Yes the wheel locks. Everything else seems to work. I think the ignition cylinder is just worn out. It is 54 years old. I haven't figured out how to jiggle it to get it to turn backwards which makes me think something just isnt turning as it should.
I checked the cable and the positioner on the column, once in awhile the wheel will lock but I never get back to accessory position, the tumbler sticks some even with the forward positions sometimes. Do I need a new tumbler or it it something in the column? or bad keys, Any ideas?

My last car started getting hard to turn the ignition and felt clunky. Didn't take long for it to stop turning completely. If it were me i would replace the ignition lock assembly now.
