So this morning it was cold (28F), but dry and the roads were perfect so I drive the vette to work like always... I get ready to leave just after 5PM and roads were still fine. Got about a mile and suddenly there was tons of freezing rain. In a matter of minutes I was driving on pure ice, and the radio started talking about all these wrecks. The rest of the drive took an hour instead of 20 minutes. I drove most of the way in 3rd gear at 900 rpm. If I just barely touched the throttle the tires started spinning. I'm glad I have EFI as it would run very smoothly at 900 rpm. Any bucking would have made me wreck for sure.
One moron passed me and when he went by I saw the whole side of the car was smashed! Some people are slow learners.
Good thing I grew up in Sweden where snow and ice is common. I was mostly worried about other drivers.... Some clearly demonstrated their complete lack of a clue.
But now the Vette is taking a rest in the heated garage, unscathed.
Drove home from downtown DC in a similar condition last night. Black ice everywhere. Got lost in the city and two cars in front of us a Dodge caravan decided to see how many times he could roll over his car and land on his tires. Not funny I guess. But he didn't make it , ended up on his roof. Car behind was too close and ended up in a snow bank.. We were 300 feet back and No problem.. But at least we weren't in the Vette.. Some people are totally clueless.
Believe it or not, but yesterday we had over 60 degrees!!! Wild!
 Yep. We sure did. In N. Texas if you don't like the weather, just wait a day or two...sometimes only a few hours.
You're a bigger man than I for driving your BB around today. Mine's been tucked away for at least a week now. All the rain last week, and I didn't have a chance to drive it this weekend. This week is going to be washed out.
Oh well. :(
Main thing is that I'm glad you and your baby made it home safe and sound. Tomorrow will be a bad day as well.
I once rode my Harley to work, beautiful morning but by the time I was going home a small tropical storm had blown in! I was riding home in monsoon type rain and 30MPH winds! I was scared out of my mind. I putted all the way home and didn't drop it once! But wouldn't you know it the same guy that passed you flew by me that day! He gets around doesn't he? :conehead
A friend of mine was out and aired his LeMans the other day,and it looked like two parallell snowboard tracks on the snow behind his slicks.
Glad you made it in one piece..There have been to many horrorstories on the forum. We dont need anther one
Zwede>>Köp dubbat :lolg:   :smash: :smash:
Believe me, I was thinking that while slippin' n sliding! (For the non-swedes - he's saying get studded tires). Not only do the studded tires give more traction, but the other cars with studs will roughen up the ice and make much more traction.
I called in to work this morning and was told that if I wanted to stay home I could take a vacation day. Screw that. I jumped into one of my other cars, a 1983 Caddy Deville and went to work. Currently at 10 AM there are 3 of us here! :D I spun one rear wheel for most of the way.
