I am sure that this has been covered a bunch - but I couldnt find the search function on this forum - anyways - I am upgrading my 70's mufflers and the local shop recommended Flowmaster 40. What do you think - I really want it to come off sounding LOUD AND PROUD. What ideas do you have?
i loved my Flowmaster 40's when my engine was stock and had "2 into 1 into 2" stock exhaust...
now my engine is not stock  and i have headers and 2-1/2" true duals straight back with no cat and i HATE them ! :reddevil
when driving normal, which i do about 30% of the time, the're fine...
but when i get on it they BLAT! and tend to "pop" from the back pressure when i back off the throttle...
dont get me wrong...i like loud too but IMO they sound like crap on my car...
as a matter of fact, they are about 6-8 months old and they are coming off in another week or so...i may put Flowmasters on it again but it wont be 40's!
my engine needs more back pressure...period.
heck...i may even opt for some cheaper, fiber filled turbos...i dunnow... :D
Im sorry if im kind of off topic but can you carry on a conversation or listin to music when your driving, im not talking about acceloration, just regular 4th gear speed limit driving. Thanks

I have 40's on my 502/502hp engine and that is the car those mufflers were made for. I have 3" exhaust going into them with an H pipe, in parking lots I set off all the sensitive alarms and make the regular ones all beep beep beep. Cruising at 2000-2500 RPMs, they sound great and if I ever had a passenger I could carry on a conversation and that is in a vert.
