I'm new to the forum, but I've noticed a lot of the prices people post are less than what I would expect for the chrome bumper years. I've seen them for a lot more and a lot less, but I was wondering what the value is doing. They didn't seem to be climbing as well as I'd expect. I was shocked at Carslile what some were selling for, really low. Is this a fad? I've got about $23K in mine (350/350 coupe, full option..windows.a/c...new custom paint...everything works down to the squirters) and I was wondering if I've got too much in it.
I really don't care because I drive it like I stole it and maintaining it is therapy from my job (so I kind of look at it as a hobby), but the value isn't really dropping through the floor, is it?
I read an article in Corvette Fever earlier this year stating the C3's (chrome bumper cars in partictular) are the fastest going Vette in value this year. I'm glad to to see the C3's coming around after being overlooked by the '63-'67's.
Prices do seem low to me too, but when people are losing their jobs and dumping their assets to survive you get these times where everyone low ***** everything as they think they can steal things. The chrome bumper C-3's are the best looking in my view... I own a '74 so I am not biased... and when things turn around those that were taken care of will find value again. And so will the other C-3's that were taken care of.
I know it is not a great thing to pick someone's pockets when they are down, but there are probably many right now who are finding some great bargains on vettes right now. Kind of like the stock market.... when the NASDAQ crashes another 1350 points everyone should be in. :D
I think the prices are on the rise even with the downturn in the economy. The wife and I had an '88 coupe we sold to buy the '71. I have always wanted a "bumper car" and now I have one. I wouldn't trade it for anything except another "bumper car"...
I too don't see the higher values. Yeah, some maybe getting them, but alot of times those are "higher" end cars with Awards and such. I see going prices LOWER than what Corvette Fever or Vette magazines price guides are stating because of the state of the economy. In order to sell, people are lowering their prices lowering their value. Also, because of the times, look at how many muscle, antique & classis cars are for sale-Hemming's is larger than many phone books. Chevy/Corvette trader magazine is getting thicker & thicker and the pics are getting smaller & smaller. Many specialty cars now like the newer Ford Thunderbird are suffering in sales due to the economy. What a great time for GM to come out with this Cadillac XLR :skep: Can you say "ALLANTE" :nonod:

The sum of the parts, is never equal to the whole...
