Ok, I pulled the error code off of my vette tonight. I know that #43 is the ESC (Electronic Spark Control) problem/Knock sensor.
And the crossfireforum has a nice help page devoted to error codes. Here is what it says to do.
Connect a timing light to the no 1 ignition wire. Start the engine and notice the timing, then with a hammer strike the engine block and check if the timing retards. If not replace the knock sensor. The ESC almost never goes bad. If this still doesn't help replace the ESC.
How do you get a hammer in there to pound on the block
And do I need to replace this right now? Or will it hurt to drive for now without it working? I get no Knocking that I can hear.
Check for a loose or dirty connection at either the knock sensor (pass side low on the block) or at the connector from the ESC, it's on the back of the ecm, they tend do get dirty or wiggle loose.
If that's okay andit still doesn't retard timing (you can also hit the exhaust manifold) try to replace the knock sensor. The 82 has a different sensor from all the other years though.
The knock sensor is screwed into the pass side block drain so you don't want to replace it on a hot engine :)
If your esc turns out to be shot, I have a spare one
