I will say... Its refreshing to see a board where people actually have a grip on reality. I came from ClubGP, (Had a '98 Grand Prix GTP that ran 13.4's) and everyone on there has there head completely up there butt. There are tons of kill stories on there that are outrageous, and people are seriously delusional about where GTP's fall on the car food chain. So this place is fairly refreshing for the most part.

They are a bunch of great guys here! I also know that there will always be something faster. My ZO6 is as quick or quicker than just about any high number production C2 or C3 Corvette, but it pales against my 69 L88. Yet If I were to spend a couple thousand $$ on the Z, I could easily match the power of the L88 and still have a/c, 25+mpg, and unbelievable handling & brakes. Guys spending even more $$ would have no problem venturing into the "ridiculous" category regarding power numbers only dreamed about.
Enjoy what you've got and be happy for the guy that's driving something special too.
This certainly has been an eye-opening chain of messages! I bought my first vette last November. It's a '69 with 427/390 engine. I've spent the winter trying to get it into good driving shape and I'm really excited about driving it this summer. But honestly, I have no intention of racing it at stoplights. I bought this car because of my mid-life crisis (turning 45yrs old next month) and because I remember the impact these cars had on me when I was a kid. I've always thought the C3 Corvettes were the coolest cars and I'm absolutely thrilled to finally own one! This is like a dream come true - no kidding! I've always owned stodgy 4cyl cars all my life. I never owned a car with any giddy-up. So, my new baby may not be the fastest car in the neighborhood, but I don't really care. It's fast enough for me. There is no doubt in my mind I will get plenty of envious stares when I drive it. To me, it's the degree of coolness, not speed, that makes these old C3's so unique.
Well, I just got back from the track, it went pretty well. Remember my car is basically stock (only free ram air mod done) and I've only been driving stick for about a month. My best two runs were 13.5 @ 106 and 13.4 @ 105, and I was only getting 2.2 60 fts. I was pretty happy with this. I was bogging down a little off the line, not spinning. So if I can get a 2.1 or 2.0 I'd really be moving. No C3 Vettes at the track though .
Anyone care to guess aproximate times for my car in 0-60 and 1/4 mile.
Just curious
