Whatever you do, if it is directly feeding the carb, do in moderation. Excessive goop and/or tape will find it's way into the carb which is a big :nonod:

I believe teflon tape will get eaten by fuel after awhile and will leak. The fittings are close tolerance brass and should not need any sealant. When I've developed leaks in fuel line fittings and couldn't get a new one then I'd use a thin bead of Permatex part B.

I've used teflon tape on fuel lines before without any problems but you have be sure not to put any on the first couple of threads or it could wind up in the carb. Personally though, I think it's safer just to use one of the other products for that if needed.

There is tape similar to teflon tape made especially for gas lines it is yellow and available at most plumbing supply stores, that is what I use on carb fittings and lines and when you take them apart all the tape is still there on the threads :D

I use the liquid plumbers teflon on fuel fittings.

I had a piece of tape that f'ed up a carb for me. I had some tape on a fitting, pulled the fitting apart, I removed all the tape that was on the fitting -- but there must have been some in the housing it screwed into. I must have missed that little piece, it went into the carb and prevented the needle from closing. Next thing I know the carb is on fire -- big time. It had fuel coming out the boosters and over the vent tube on idle, and it must have coughed and sputtered on all that raw fuel and it backfired through the carb. Almost torched the entire engine.

Ever since then, I have used the liquid stuff and I use it sparingly.

Teflon is one of the most impervious materials on earth, so no, gasoline doesn't stand a chance. In my opinion, the liquid stuff is more likely to be pushed into the carb. Even though I agree that you shouldn't need any sealing aids, I've found that it is often very difficult to create a perfectly leak-proof seal with a older setup without some kind of help.

I've used military-grade tape for many years without any problems. Military-grade teflon tape is thicker than the flimsy stuff the auto parts stores sell. You can get some from McMaster-Carr (www.mcmaster.com) very quickly.
