Did the 80's era vette's have a constant power to work with the newer cd players clocks/settings. I cannot find one in my car. Nor do I have a manual that show the wiring schematics in any depth when concerning the stereo. What has everyone done to get a constant power lead? Thanks
Dave
1. take the keys outta the ignition
2. get a digital volt meter
3. touch a good ground and probe a couple wires looking for 12.4 -12.6 V assuming ur battery is in good shape.
4. start with the cigarette lighter power wire(it is usually a good on to start with)
if you have power there than you can tap into that one if you are not finding the stock constant power.
5. hope that helps ya out.
If you originally had an ETR (electronically tuned) radio, then yes you had constant 12V to the radio. If it's the old analog type, then no you would not and you'll have to go to the lighter to get some juice.
Actually...for a stereo to be installed correctly, all power leads should be wired directly to the battery (except, of course, the ignition/accessory wire). This will keep the "engine" noise to a minimum. Consult the audio form for in-depth installation instructions.
