Has anyone used the Pertronix ignitor ignition conversion? I just ordered one and wonder if anyone has had good luck with them. I couldn't stand the points anymore, but also can't afford the HEI distributor with cable drive tach.
I have and Caveat Emptour(buyer beware) is all I can tell you I had two Ignitor II Modules fail on me before I sent them back and got a Very reliable great performing Malory dual point distributor with Tach drive. I wish you luck
I have the first version on my car with the magnetic ring pickup. Works good so far and has been on my car for better than 3 years. No problems so far.
I have had good luck with my Pertronix kit.. Just dont steal the coil wire so yur wife cant take the car.. Thats what I did. :smash: She cranked and cranked till the battery was dead... Later I charged the battery back up and put the coil wire back on. But the car wouldnt start. Somehow this childish move on my part had fried the ignitor. So I sent it back and they sent me a new one. they claimed the one I sent them tested as good. It didnt work for me. The new one they sent me back worked with the first turn of the key. Ive never had the ignitor leave me stranded anywhere. Ive only boogered them up myself when working and being a general dumbazz.
Hi
I installed the PERTRONIX 1 ignitor to my 68 big block.
I didn't buy the PERTRONIX 2 as some guys mentioned having failures with it. It again seems to be a super complicated electronic piece of ........ that regulates the spark intention in regards of RPM or so.
I didn't want that, just eliminate the points.
I also didn't want the PETRONIX 1 lobe sensor type as this needs a few seconds ignition on B4 starting ?
Make sure you connect it to a positive 12 Volt source. Otherwise it might miss.
Thanks for the info. I ordered the lobe sensor type and installed it yesterday. I found out after some frustration that it does indeed take about 15 sec. of ignition on before getting any spark. It does also have a slight miss, so I'll take your advice and check that I have it connected to a pos. 12 source. Who knows, maybe I installed it wrong.
I have had the P II on for nearly 1 year and also added a MSD6AL, so far it all works together fine, next year I may replace my stock distributor with the MSD Pro Billet.
I've had the original igniter with the magnetic ring for three years. Other than not using a full 12 volt source originaly, there have been no problems. Engine fires right up on the third revolution. :hurray:
I heard the lobe sensor types are the ones typically associated with problems. The ones with the magnetic rings are better. Thats the one I got. The magnetic ring bolts up under the rotor. Both the Pertronix and Pertronix II I have incorperate the magnetic ring.
