Default Coil-spring rates

I'm doing some front suspension work and was considering changing my springs as well. Does anyone know what the spring rates are for the OEM springs?

John,

Five different coil springs and two different leaf springs were used during the 1969 model year.

FRONT SPRINGS

350 (no A/C) - Part #3931823 - "HS" - 250 lbs/in
350 (with A/C) - Part #3931824 - "HT" - 264 lbs/in
427 (no A/C) - Part #3931825 - "HU" - 284 lbs/in
427 (with A/C) - Part #3931826 - "HV" - 325 lbs/in
F41 (all) - Part #3832518 - "EA" - 550 lbs/in

REAR SPRINGS

350/427 (except F41) - Part #3850839 - "EA" - 70 lbs/in (per side)
F41 (all) - Part #3828811 - "EB" - 152 lbs/in (per side)

The springs were actually chosen based on sprung curb weight, but it usually took the addition of air conditioning to require a change to the higher rate spring (which is why I listed it as "with a/c").

As far as 1972, I believe that the springs were identical in part number, broadcast code, and rate. If I remember correctly, the spring information is listed towards the front of the 1972 AIM (as it is in the 1969 AIM).

Regards,

Looks like you got your answer. I think my 327 '68 had 280#. I replaced them with 460# and Bilstien shocks. Rides great. You know the ol' shock test where you push down to bounce the front end and see how quick it recovers? Well I tried that and it didn't move! I thought, "oh oh, I think I've overdone things again!" Thankfully, it rides and handles great.
