Would it be safe to assume that my '71 which came with power brakes has the SS sleeves in them. The reason I ask is I would like to order them from work today so I can get the stuf by the weekend. They are stamped Delco Moraine calipers.
If they are the original calipers then is is safe to say that they ARE NOT SS sleeved. If they have ever been replaced then they are most likely sleeved. All of the sleeved ones that I have seen are stamped Delco Moraine because they are rebuilt from delco units. Only one way to tell for sure, you have to open one up.
Ok I pulled the 2 rear calipers apart. Now I have a couple more questions.
The rears were stamped Delco Moraine and they look to have a inserted sleeve pressed in but I am not sure. There is a ridge on the bottom of the cylinder. Would this indicate a SS caliper? Also, I have cleaned up the bores with scotch brite and a brake hone. There is still a small amount of imperfection near the top of the bore. How perfect does the surface have to be before I say forget it. I am a pretty decent shade tree mechanic but these are my first caliper rebuilds. The imperfections arent that bad but I would like some input.
