As my other post (about the underside of the hood) I was on the finishing touches to make the car into show car status. Last night heading into Pacific Beach (Ingram street) a Honda Civic with 4 girls darted in front of me at a 4-way intersection and as I tried to weave around her she gunned her car and I hit her head on at 35MPH!! I banged my head into the windshield and hit my lower back on the parking brake lever which had somehow came up during the collision. I hit with great force and thought the car was totalled for sure and cried like a Baby when I saw the car last night. I didn't get out of the hospital till 3 in the morning and aside from Vikaden I'm okay as are the 4 girls who were all drunk plus the police found open container.

I went to the tow shop and they refused to allow any photos which I think is
assinine as it is my car but it is another California law to protect other's privacy

It goes on a lift tommorow to check the frame however the owner said "In my 35 years in this business I can safely say the car is a total loss"

Heres the lowdown front clip is gone on both sides, winshield is bent and cracked, engine is fine, radiator/ A/C condensor gone, headlight asemblies gone, turn signal stock and wiper stock broken off, dash pad map pocket ripped off, dash, doors dinged by broken off fenders, if not totalled here's what it needs.

That is awful.... but I guess you could all be dead. :( Drunk girls... :rolleyes: :rolleyes: :rolleyes: One of my biggest fears (drunk kids in general... ) Shop around a bit and see what you can get for $16.5. Try not to make a totally emotional decision. I guess what works sometimes is to take the cash payoff and then by back the wreck. Good luck! :) MJ

 

Serious bummer David. Have you thought about it on whether you want to pursue putting this vette back together(if it is not totalled)? If you are correct about just the parts you see needing replaced at $3600, I can't see the bill coming to less than $8,000-$10,000 with the labor, paint and small parts that will add up. Farmer's would probably trash it if so.

I'm just wagging some figures out there by the way.

Glad to hear nothing's gone that can't be replaced. It might be early to decide, but do you plan to keep and repair the car?

 

Thank god you are alright, seeing a lot of red light runners these days, just seems to be so many distractions out there, but drunk driving is terrifying.

 

I'm glad you're OK- that's the most important thing. It sounds like the Vette can be fixed. I sure hope so, because it was a beauty. Best of luck.

 

Sorry to hear the bad news. My friend wrecked his Mustang last wummer abd bought it back for $500. He had just put $3k into the motor so he bought a 4 banger and transferred everything over. He made out pretty well. Hopefully you can do something similar.

I fear your right. Parts=$3600 to $4500, paint=$1500 minumum, labor to install whole new clip etc proabaly $2000 total = $7500, absolute minumum. And I cannot just look at the frame and know wheter it's tweeked. You guys realize I've been detailing it and painting the bottom of the hood since Thursday, the car was flawless. Probably one of the best detailed/cleanest C3 in all of San Diego.

I hope the laws in Cali are just as strict on young drunk drivers as they are on people wanting to take pictures of there own car in a tow yard. :rolleyes: :mad

I am not the kinda guy you want to invite to a party where your guest show up or leave drunk. I think that is one of the worst things someone can do, and way too many people do it, often.
