I tried to find info on this topic before I posted but had no luck. I hate to come in and ask a question that is probably asked every other week. Anyway, here it goes. My electrcic door locks (drivers side) seem to be having trouble locking. When the switch is pushed down, the lock will try to move into the locked position and then slow down or just stop all together before getting there. It seems kind of intermittent. When you grab the lock and move it by hand, it seems semi-stiff to move. I was wondering if there is some sort of lube to use on the actuators. Or is this a sign that the actuator is on it's last legs? ...and so it begins, the money trail leading directly to my garage.

Re: Door lock actuator question (Bobchad)
I believe I would try as Bob suggested. Take the door panel off and give it a good cleaning. I pulled my door panels last week and also pulled the door handles and locking mechanisms on mine. Cleaned everything with brake cleaner. They all looked like new when I got done. Lubed everything with white litium grease. Put it all back together and it works like a charm. Make sure to make notes or simple drawings of how the rod go into the mechanisms so you will know how to put them back.
Thanks for the replies gents. That sounds like the cheapest way to start in anycase. Hopefully it will be something as simple as a good cleaning. I am just a little nervous to take the door panels off as I have heard the insides of a Vette door are a scary plkace to be hanging out.
I did this a few months ago on the passenger side. Basically, the actuator was mincemeat. It was causing the whole mechanism to bind, so nothing worked.
The rubber boot that keeps it dry was melted!?! So for now it's a manually locking door. One of these days, I'll stick another actuator in there. Fortunately, replacement actuators are only $28 from Zip.
Maybe we can check it out at Hills 'n Dales and see if it is acting like yours did, if I don't get to it before the end of the month. Yeah, like that is going to happen.
After some more investigating of this problem, I noticed that with the car running, the locks operate as they should. It is only when the car is not running that they start to get a little funky. I know the passenger door switch is a little whacked no matter if the car runs or not. Looking forward to a beer and a look over on the car.
