Default Need Info/75vette

I found a wire that is not connected in the engine compartment. I traced it back and found it goes to the amp guage. The problem is I don't know where it is suppose to be connected . Any help on this problem will be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum :seeya

Does your meter currently work?

I could take a good guess but I don't want to give you wrong information. You should get a good wiring diagram for your year vette. I have one from ecklers that is a laminated poster, Its the best diagram I have, but I still have others just in case.

There are two 16 gauge wires running from the ammeter. One is BLK and the other is BLK/WHT.

The BLK wire runs to the firewall terminal block and exits on the engine compartment side as a 20 gauge ORN wire then spliced onto a 10 gauge BLK wire that Y's into the 10 gauge RED wire that ends at the starter.

The BLK/WHT wire runs to the firewall terminal block and exits on the engine compartment side as a 20 gauge ORN thermal wire that jumpers back into the firewall terminal block where a 16 gauge RED thermal wire exits and is spliced into a 10 gauge RED wire that Y's into a 10 gauge RED wire that connects to the BAT terminal on the alternator as well as the V terminal (the plastic two wire connector) of the alternator.

Hope this helps.

 And you thought is was going to be hard. Good luck  :jester

I was going to say that it either goes to the starter or alternator, but I gess there is a little more to it than that. :smash:
