Default Throttle Linkage question...

I have a 73 AUTO, L-48 car with an Edelbrock Performer intake. I recently added a #1901 Edelbrock Q-Jet replacement to it and kept my stock throttle linkage. My problem is that when I put the pedal to the floor I cannot get Wide Open Throttle! I have adjusted the cable all the way back in the clamp to maximuze "pull" and but still just allow a 600 rpm low idle speed when the pedal is released.

Very surprisingly, edelbrock email tech support has been poor. I have sent photos and everything. Anybody offer some input?

Thanks - Rod
Louisville, KY

Have you checked your gas pedal? Some have found that the rod will bend, preventing enough cable pull for true WOT.

I've heard about this on another forum. What they said is that there is a stop on the cable after it passes through the linkage. They said to pull this away form the linkage and put a lead fishing sinker to take up some of the slack. This may help. LOL Pat

Well, everything worked OK with the Carter Q-Jet that was on it B4. I know that doesn't mean it was right, but...

This next reply regarding fishing sinker. I actually had this kinda thing come to mind, but I wanted a real fix. I don't wanna "hilljack" up my car. (Note I am from KY so I can say this - haha).

If you are referring to that cable "shroud", yes it does interfere if you pull the cable mechanism back too far.

I am very dissappointed with Edelbrock after spending some $700 in product! I think the last response was to look at another company that made throttle cable linkages. I can't believe this was the first time anybody ever put Edelbrock parts TOGETHER on a 73 covette!

There's got to be a product out there - adjustable throttle linkage, etc.!

Any chance you can move the linkage stud on the carb?If you can shorten the arc by moving the stud closer to the throttle shaft(maybe a hole is already there)you'll get a shorter and quicker pull.
I used to run an Edelbrock 1904 and used the stock bracket without a problem.

Yes, there are 2 holes that seem to be available on the lever arm you are talking about. They seem to be sized for different cable "ball ends" though. Something to think about.
From your picture it looks like you have an Edelbrock intake as well. What year? AUTO?
