Re: another corvette/driver bite the dust (C3 Shark Tank)
Death by stupidity, at least he didn't kill anyone else.
Lacasse's family is blaming the movie, The Fast and the Furious
I don't get this pass the blame stuff. When I was 16 and got a driver's permit, my dad would only let me have a straight 6, auto, 6000 lbs. car that might have been able to go up to 60 mph downhill with a tail wind. Why do today's parents put these kids in the high performance cars and then blame others when the kid wraps it around an unmovable object?
Re: another corvette/driver bite the dust (Let 'er eat!)
Its a shame to see a young life lost so senselessly. When I was 17, and my Dad was 17, we took chances driving fast too. This is not the fault of some movie! A 99 C5 has 345 HP? I think until the responsibility of driving a car like that is achieved, the accident's fault lies between the child and the owner that left him drive. We all that have children, want the best for and the most we can do for our kids, but sometimes going without, wheather you can afford it or not, is a valuable lesson too. :(
Re: another corvette/driver bite the dust (Let 'er eat!)
looks like the family is setting up for a huge lawsuit aginst the 2 fast 2 furious movie.
what is disturbing now too is that cops are going to have their eye on us. Two fast looking cars going side by side are gonna get stopped for drag racing sometimes even when there is nothing going on.
I had a couple of young guys messing with me the other night in a Z28 on the highway. They went around me in right lane at probably over 100 mph cut into the left, passed some traffic and slowed down and waited for me in the right lane.
When i got even with them, i gave the throttle just a little quick blip to see what they would do. They took off, got a few car lengths ahead and let off. Mass state trooper pulled us both over, pissed off as hell. We didn't get tickets but, i felt really stupid playing with some teenagers. The next time someone starts messing with me i guess i should just pull over and get nowhere near them. I don't want to loose my license because a cop thinks i'm street racing.
Re: another corvette/driver bite the dust (turtlevette)
I'm sick of all of this. This is the fault of the kids parents and the kid himself. Nobody else. First of all letting a 17 year old drive a 99 Corvette is stupid, reckless, and borderline insane. Kids can't handle a car like that. (as we all see now) Second is the parents should have known what their child is up to. This wasn't the first time the kid has gotten involved in street racing. After the first time something should have been done about it. Now the parents, who apparantly have no cash shortage anyway, are looking to get richer by putting the blame on a movie, getting their cop friends to help by saying it's the movies fault, which sets them up perfectly for a lawsuit. It's a tragic incident, but my sympathies are extremely limited on this issue.
Re: another corvette/driver bite the dust (Let 'er eat!)
I noticed 2 things about the article:
1.) They switched from the term street-racing to drag-racing about half-way through the article. The terms should not be inter-changeable.
2.) The "drag-racing" law has my attention. I will definately have to look into the Motor Vehicle Code in RI to see what laws we have and what constitutes street-racing. I certainly don't want any citations because I blipped the throttle in a car that looks fast.
Re: another corvette/driver bite the dust (75 BBC Stingray)
Parents are stupid to give their 16 or 17 yo a sports car. When I got my license I never even asked my parents to give me a car. I knew I had to get a part time job and pay for it myself. If I didn't like it I could ride the bus. Very simple.
Fact is, if you had to work countless evenings including christmas and newyears to pay for your first car, chances are much smaller you're going to wreck it in a stupid street race.
Re: another corvette/driver bite the dust (Let 'er eat!)
The parents should be charge with neg homicide for letting their kid drive a high hp and not knowing he was unable to handle it. Not all 17 year old kids are like that, I bet their are many who, if given the proper instruction and supervision, can handle a vette. It is up to parents to make sure their kids are mentally mature enough to handle it.
And if the movie was the cause, why did they let them watch it in the first place? By letting him watch it didn't they contribute to it? So they buy their kid a 300+ hp car and let him watch the F+F and it's the movie fault he killed himself? What a crock of :bs .
Re: another corvette/driver bite the dust (Let 'er eat!)
The black 1980 that I bought was almost bought by a parent for their teen as a first car. Is that insane or what? Why not just buy them a DVD of "Deerhunter" and a revolver.

What is really amazing is the kid's father was a cop. I guess it's like the preacher's daughter syndrome. Maybe the kid's father went to far with his preaching. I guess we'll never know.
Re: another corvette/driver bite the dust (Let 'er eat!)
It is quite tragic when anyone this age loses a life for any reason. My most sincere condolences go to those this young man was close to. This should be a wake up call for any responsible parent to take note of. What was this boy doing with a car like that? Did he have a job where he could make payments and insurance? All young people need to learn financial responsibility, and I can't believe this young man could do it on his own. Now the parents want to sue the producers of a movie for their son's death? Were they there with a filming crew asking the boy to race or what? Only in this Country.....
The parents should be charge with neg homicide for letting their kid drive a high hp and not knowing he was unable to handle it.
:iagree: The laws hold parents respsonsible for guns left around the house, unlocked, where the kids can get to them. Why not cars like that? Good point Fevre!
Re: another corvette/driver bite the dust (Big Fish)
I'm 16 and bought my Vette. There are 3 reasons I dont street race.
1. It's a 77 and doesnt have that much power
2. Dont want to wreck what I have worked for
3. Dont want to die or kill anyone else
