Default New headers will require exhaust work...H-pipe?

I put the new headers on and they don't meet the old flanges at all so I'll have to take it to an exhaust shop to get them to re-weld a new flange in. I was thinking since I'm already doing that, I should go ahead and have them put in an H-pipe (or x-pipe...don't know difference?).
Is this something worth doing for my setup? And how much should I expect to pay. If no H-pipe, how much should I expect for just re-doing the flange?
Thanks.

If it is sound U are after, try it w/o the "H" pipe first and C how U like it. An "H" pipe did improve the performance of my modified '76 but it mellowed the sound too.....U can always add it later. BTW "H" pipe and "X" pipe are same thing only diff. configuration. Just join the 2 pipes together is all. :yesnod:

H pipes seem to help better at low end, x pipes at the top. If you add either have them placed with flanges so you can remove them to work on your drive shaft if need be.

Yes, add. It's a balance pipe, helps power. X is H w/o the pipe. Either can be done w/o with flanges & still be able to remove drive shaft w/ ex. in place.

Well I'll check on some local shops and see what they quote me. Heck, I'm thinking while I'm at it (doh, I hate that phrase!) I'll get one of those in-line splitters that lets you open the exhaust to open headers. That'd be pretty sweet. But would that really add much power for the strip? I've got flowmasters on now...don't know which series though.

This is what you want them to install. It's all before the crossmember and fits under a 4 speed tranny.

I run a H pipe at the spring bolts. Did not help performance, but balanced the sound out.

If the Alsheimers isn't too bad today I think it was around $175 to $200. I went back through the archives to see if I mentioned the price when I posted the pics originally but I didn't. A mind is a terrible thing to waste! :lolg:
