Default I Need Some Help Identifying Some Heads

I've owned 2 vettes & always read, but never really had a need to post until now. I am thinking about buying a set of rebuilt heads that one of my buddies is offering to me for like... a hundred and fifty bucks (CANADIAN!)... so, they are pretty cheap.

The heads are casting # 3785896

Can I get some information on them??

The engine I am going to put them on is a stock 1980 L48, with a bit of a mild cam. I have a 4 Spd & 3.73's I am going to be putting in over the winter, but I want to get some bolt on mods done to this motor if I can... just to tune it up a bit, any other suggestions??

Hey Kyle,
Those are early heads, '62-64. 283/327 with 1.72 intake valve & 1.50 exhaust. They were mostly passenger car 195 hp application, but they did come on the base 250 hp Corvette as well. A good serviceable head for lower horsepower engines. But you may run into a problem with the C3 because there are no mounting holes on the front surface to accomodate accessory brackets.
Good luck, Greg

I've found info on 3795896, nothing on 378........maybe recheck the numbers

3795896 are Chev heads from 1963-67 283 or 327 engines....intake valves are 1.72" and exhaust are 1.5".......however, this doesn't mean much if your mate has "rebuilt" them......best he tells you what size valves he's used.....also whether the ports have been polished........or if he's done anything like an angle grind to smooth the flow........

My opinion is: You buy second hand cheap......you get second hand cheap....and the problems that come with it.......

Why don't you look into working your existing heads???? It'll be more than $150, but with port matched and polished heads, valve grind, uprated cam and headers.......you could make 30 to 70 HP.......

Just a thought...........
