Default Ram/Cold induction?

Has anyone installed a ram or cold air induction system on their vette? I have a 79.

If your vette is stock it came with the cold air induction setup. That's the purpose behind the snorkel air cleaner assembly

Several of us are running the L-88 hood with cowl induction.

I did this on my lightning and it worked good but not sure on my vette.

What if I take some ducting fiberglass, it's insulated and foil on one side and insulate my hood and basically attatch it to the underside of my hood to isolate my air cleaner to only suck in air from the back of my stock cowl hood? Would that work or would the cowl hood create a vacuum at high speed? I have a 500 hp 383 that needs plenty of air.

Simply copy the 73-75 cowl induction setup, minus the solenoid for the cowl scoop. You may need a 73-75 hood to make this work properly though since they already have the hood ductwork built in. Works well on my 73.

I believe the stock 79 air induction flows over the top of the radiator. So...what is on top of your radiator? If you don't have the cold air ducting then there should be like 3" of gap over the top of your radiator which could cause your engine to get a bit hot. I would recommend going with the stock setup...just look around for the ducting and restore it to the original condition. Going with a 75 hood could cause some problems with fit, plus you would need to get a carb to hood seal. Restoring the cold air ducting would probably be cheaper too.

If I could make my own airfilter to hood seal, could I expect good air flow with the flow coming from the back of the cowl hood. Or would the flow of air over the hood create a vacuum at the back of the cowl?   :boxing :( :bb :bs

I wanted to make a carb seal for my cowl hood too. Any diagrams on what's needed for that?

it's worth a try. i had a guy at a show ask the same Q, he popped his hood and it looked possible.
Don't overlook the A-arm area for cool air. that is possible too,(remove the flap)
