Yes its the 252mph Bugatti, and yes it's a sequential shifter 7 speed. And yes, it does cost 1,000,000 pounds. But, I was being serious. I want to make my vette interior look like this ( or similarly sweet ). Anyone out there with real custom interior design?
It doesn't have to be EXACTLY like this, but the idea is to really improve on the styling and luxury aspect of the car.

Here is another nice one I'm designing off of....
  I got my autoweek two days ago .......Great article on the car
Duct tape, think duct tape my friend. It will save you the headache and aggravation of trying to explain why the interior is worth more than the car. Also with duct tape there is nothing that it cannot do.
If you're good enough with fiberglass, any custom interior shouldn't be to big of a chore(all things considered). you could also look into hard foams to "sculpt" for dash peices that don't need much structure. Or you could make a mold out of carving soft wood or clay or similar, then laying some type of composite over the "inverse" of your mold(like carbon fiber  or fiberglass). I read a magazine article that showed how to mold carbon fiber, it doesn't seem to much harder then fiberglass, you just have to watch the "stiching" so it doesn't look funny..
After you get the shell, just take it to an apultory shop and they can lay leather or vinal over it with some padding. If you had the skills to do most of it yourself, it probably wouldn't cost much more then replacing all the stock peices with origionals.
Another thing, look at some kit car interiors, they are fiberglass, you might find one you like that you can make to fit the vette...at least you'd have a starting point. You'd just have to apultor it, and get it to line up with the window and reach the floor at a proper height.

PS. if you're a good talker, try to talk a new custom shop into doing some laybor for free, in echange for you going to shows and promoting their company. My friend is getting custom body work on his mini truck for cost of materials, and all he has to do is put the guys shop name across his window.
Daniel....might you suggest some sources for reading up on the methods you mentioned. The few custom upholstery books/mags I've looked at had little in the actual formation of molds, etc. thx. Mike
i'm in the midst of doing a insane interior rehaul.. basically trying stuff no one has done before in a vette (so far to my knowledge).. it's only costing me about 6000 .. but hell it's going to be my show car right? :)
Daniel, that is some great information. But some more info on those methods like stinky requested would be helpful. I have never taken an interior out before, so I have no idea what to expect underneath it all.
DJ Serotonin, do you have pics of what you're doing. $6000 sounds like it should be a nice interior.
Anyone got any ideas on how to do that machine perssed aluminum the Bugatti has for the center console? I'd want to have the controls for the AC and windows in pretty much the same place.
Also, Gotta make sure I use a leather that will match the seats I want to put in.
Anyone got pictures of taking a part the interior/dash area? It seems to me that its gonna be a pain. Could I take my existing dash out and have it reapulstored (spelling?) and then just add the sweet looking dials from the bugatti?
Ping...when ya want to remove the dash and all, give me a holler since I'm right across the bridge...and I just finished removing the complete dash last week. :yesnod:

I don't know of any specific books or anything on mold making, but the carbon fiber molding was shown in some import Mag...I'll check through my friends magazines and see which one exactly.
Balsa and bass wood are soft, easy-to-carve woods that might be an idea. After you make the shape you want, you have to pour something over it to make like a "reverse(negative)" mold, that you can lay the composite into. Also, I have even seen people use spray-foam filler(like for houses) to fill in small gaps(like between the center console and the floor, or maybe the dash/center console).
also like i said, I know custom dashes and kit car dashes can be bought, if you could find one you liked, it could always be made to work, it'd be a good place to start at least. I'll search and see what I can come up with to help.
