Default Replacing a A.C. compressor seal?

Hi everybody! I need to replace the seal in my a.c. compressor. Do I have to vent the charge to do this? It would be great if I could do this with everything still hooked up. Thanks, Paul :seeya

If you are replacing the metal or ceramic seal behind the clutch assembly, you do not have to evacuate your system.
Replace it with the ceramic seal reguardless of what you have in there now. The special seal puller tool should be available for loan/rent at a larger auto parts store.

This is the ceramic seal behind the clutch. So this is what holds the freon and oil charge in? Thanks, Paul
