I've recently noticed a ticking noise that sounds like it's comming from the driverside of the engine closest to the firewall. It ticks faster as i accelerate and you can't really notice it if you let off the gas. Could it be one of the lifters? an exhaust leak?
I would guess exhaust leak - its either that or a rocker under the valve cover.
I have Rhoads lifters so there is always a clatter going on at low RPM's I forgot to tell my tranny guy - he checked the oil twice thinking low oil was causing the clatter.
I vote for the exhaust leek also. I find they sound just like a ticking lifter.
:iagree: Put your hand up close to the manifold after you start the eng and see if you cna feel a draft. I used a 2' section of fuel line like a stethescope to help my find mine, too bad I adj the lifters for 2 hours before I figured it out. Replaced the gasket and no more ticking.
MY .02 - I had a "ticking" under the hood with same symptoms as yours. Speed up - ticking speeds up. Idle or slow - very slow and almost inaudible.
I finally found it when I put my hand on the chrome distributor cover. Seems I had a bad wire that was arcing to the underside of the cover. Radio wasn't working so never heard any static ticking and car seemed to be running just fine without skip or miss.
Replaced wires eventually and lo and behold, ticking went away.
Well turns out it was the header gaskets. I put my hand where the header meets the head and i could feel exhaust gases comming out.. from both sides. I took off one of the headers and could see burn marks on the gasket from where the exhaust gases were comming out. I bought new gaksets and replaced one side already and i can already notice the ticking disappearing. Thanks guys
