I removed the gas tank from my 72 Shark yesterday and there was something rattling arond inside it. Well it was actually two things, the first item was a red cap to a STP Gas treatment bottle and the second was this aluminum button like thing. It's about a half inch in diameter and has the letters GS embossed in it. Does anyone know if that was a factory item or just the last owner using the gas tank as a garbage can!!
Thanks.
:D
You have the rare Corvette GS option. It originally had a twin turbo 427 producing 800 horsepower. This "sleeper" option was shipped to the dealership with the emblems in the gas tank. Put this car on ebay, you'll make a million bucks.
Seriously though, take a picture of the emblem. It sounds like someone had it sitting on the rear deck and accidentally knocked it into the tank.
It's kind of like the pop can sweepstakes. You buy the car, when the tank is empty you look in the bottom, if there is a a little GS button in the bottom you win 1 billion dollars. Offer expires 30 days after day of original purchase. :lolg:
Could that be one of those snake oil products..........$19.95 toss the disc in you tank and double your gas mileage. (results may vary) Act now and we will throw in our first born. ??????
Does anyone know if the factory put that in the gas tank for any reason or ?
Naww, I'm sure they didn't do it. Probably like was said, someone set it on the back and accidently knocked it in. Maybe didn't even notice and spent years looking for it and couldn't ever find it again. That'd be my luck

I'm just wondering if it was intended to act as a device to keep stuff from sticking to the inside of the tank and causing some kind of growth in there!

Now you know what that hesitation is that kicks in periodically which seems to be something like a plug in the fuel system. That button probably gets sucked up against the fuel pickup every now and then. Great for those dates where you can say it ran out of gas and will have to wait in the car for a couple of hours until the tow truck arrives. :reddevil
