Default Coolant flow question

This may sound real dumb, but I don't know how the coolant flow is supposed to be on the heater core! There is a hose from the water pump that goes to the bottom of the heater core. From the heater core there is a hose that goes through a vacuum switch, to the top of the intake manifold. My question is: Is the water pump pushing antifreeze through the heater core into the manifld, OR is water being "sucked" by the water pump from the intake manifold, through the heater core?
Thanks in advance! I feel so dumb!

Not dumb at all. I asked the same question about a month ago so obviously it's not dumb.

The coolant goes from the pump into the engine block where it goes into the heads and intake manifold, and from the manifold to the heater core. Coolant returns to the pump via the heater hose and lower radiator hose.

Think of water under high pressure being forced into an iron pipe. Iron pipe is stronger than a rubber hose. Also, that's why the lower radiator hose has a spring inside it... so the suction created by the pump won't crush the hose.

:seeya Thanks for your help!!!
So should the hose from the manifold go to the bottom of the heater core, or doesn't it matter?

You use two hoses. One is a 5/8" ID and the other is a 3/4" ID. The 5/8" goes to the intake manifold fitting and has a mate of 5/8" on the heater core. The water pump line is the 3/4" hose. They only fit properly on one fitting at the engine and the heater core. If you are moving them around it is cheap insurance to change them out.

Tip - If you don't need a GM number stenciled on them, go to Auto Zone etc and ask for the longest 5/8" and 3/4" with molded 90 degree bends on one end. Much much cheaper than the vette houses. Then just connect at the heater core and run them neatly to the block and you will have plenty to spare. Cut to length.

Aren't you suppose to be getting married soon? Shouldn't you be worrying about wedding plans instead of your heater hoses?

Yes, I am getting married on August 30th. The Vette would look kind of funny sitting in front of the church leaking antifreeze with steam coming out from under the hood.
Unless, Rod, we could take your Vette to and from the church. :p:
