Re: Install engine with tranny attached or separate (afun'71)
Just did mine seperate 3 weeks ago. Didnt have any problems and bell was attached to tranny. Took an extra 20 minutes to line shaft with pilot bshg that was only problem.
Dont understand why people would want to add shift linkage, driveshaft, tranny brackets, backup switch, speedo cable etc... to the list of things to do?

Re: Install engine with tranny attached or separate (afun'71)
Screw a couple of studs into the bellhousing for the transmission to slide on will greatly aid in getting the transmission input shaft to line up with the pilot bushing. Once the trans is in place just remove the studs and use the proper bolts.
Re: Install engine with tranny attached or separate (afun'71)
I floor jack the trans up as far as I can get it then match the eng angle to the trans angle using a load leveler. Have your rear wheels off the ground and rotate the tires back and forth a touch to get the input shaft to mesh with the clutch disk splines. I like Norval's suggestion to use studs intead of bolts for the trans/eng connections, no fumbling to get the bolts to start.
Re: Install engine with tranny attached or separate (Fevre)
I did mine seperately the first time, and it wasn't TOO bad. Worse thing was that I'd somehow forgotten to tighten the tranny lines. This time the body is off so it'll be a snap!
