As in anything else in life, there are always ways to take it to the extreme. Up here in Minnesota, we start our cars at 20 below and 100 above and still get 200k out of them with out doing anything special other than changing the oil/filter regularly.
Yes, I pre-oiled mine when I zero-timed it this summer, but I don't see the rationale for rotaing the crank while doing so. That's why we have bearing clearances. The oil will go where it's supposed to, or we got ourselves a real problem. I also question the notion that pre-oiling washes the assembly lube off the cam. Is there any data to back that up?
