I have the MAD chambered system on my 74 350. I get a lot of possitive comments on the sound. They are pretty inexpensive, and not a complicated install for an exhaust guy to do, which is necessary to hook to headers. LOL whichever way you go, LOUDER IS BETTER!
73jst4fun, looks like you had to remove the spare tire to fit the Flomaster 50's... I'm looking to keep all the parts and find a bolt on muffler solution that will fit, look good, and sound agressive.
Tom I can tell you he removed the spare because he just redid the rear and it looks to good to cover up. I did the same but when the system was put on I had the tire carrier in and it fits fine. I have the same system as 73jst4fun and the same shop did it.
Tom, myself and Gordon M have the same system, I cant take the credit for the system, Gordonm had his first and gave me the info about the shop that did the work, and the tire carrier fits with no problem and now there's alittle more room than before because of the Flowmaster 50's dimensions. I just leave the tire carrier off because I like the way the rear looks and carry fixaflat... :lolg:
Early in 2000 I ordered the '74 "offroad" 2-1/2" true dual pipes for my '75 car from Mid-America. I also ordered the oval hide-away mufflers. Fit like a charm. The only modifications I made was to shorten up the pipes so they would fit and look better between the holes in the crossmember and the mufflers.
Did not need to take all the parts to a muffler shop for them to fiddle with.
The exhaust system was between $500-$600 if I remember, alittle more with the "H" pipe. This may seem expensive but the system is top shelf and rock solid. They do great work there, I was there about 4-5 hours, they measure everything and when it's perfect then they install the system.... :steering: Does that sound about right Gordon?
That is right. I had a ball and socket done at the H pipe so it would come off easy. This has been a good thing because I have had mine off 3 times since it was installed. Trans work!
You will not be dissapointed with Mufflex, the new system really made the car come alive. I replaced a system I bought and installed from Corvette Central which I'm going to sell soon. When I saw Gordons 72Lt1 last fall and heard his car that was the selling feature.....next is the headers, thanks to Gordons imput on performance my 73 is starting to really perform..... :steering:
I have Dynomax Ceramics $229? from Summit flowing into MAD chambered pipes $249? I paid another $200 for a very professional installation. If I had to do it over again, I'd do it over and over and over again. Has anyone ever done a test that proves a drop is horsepower, or is that :bs If it's true, is it 3hp or 30hp? All I know is that my car was stronger than stock with just the chambered pipes on stock manifolds. Going to headers was another dramatic boost. No H pipe, and the sound is wonderful. It's side pipes without the burns and the fumes.
I'd also like to know what kind of results these chamber pipes... result. (Avoid Redundant Redundancies)  What is the actual HP drop if any? I think this is the sound I am looking for, but the HP drop rumors are not a good selling point.
I have got the chambered exhausts from MAD, too and I noticed a power gain - if you look inside the chambered part (like a glaspack), the difference to some of the cheap cherry bombs is that there is no flares restricting flow (at least not on mine) - beside from that, it is only 2,5" tubes (BTW, the larger diameter gives most of the deep tone at low rpm).
I have had a friend passing me (standing) in my car and believe me - that thing sounds like a big block (yes, I have heard a few...) and I also get a lot of comments like this. At higher rpm the sound gets really agressive - but this is the nice options you have with this exhaust - drive it relaxed and mellow or agressively. But note, that all mentioned before ONLY applies if you combine them with headers - this exhaust is much quieter with stock exhaust manifolds.
Also, the exhaust hanger bracket (which bolts to the tranny) needs to be for the 2,5" - otherwise the larger tubes are not properly centered in the crossmember and clunking noise might occur. The hanger bracket is available for the 70-74 454BB cars.
Everytime I hear my car (especially from the outside - yeah, kind of silly but it sounds best from outside), I could turn into a chambered believer....
