I have had the old CAS Kenwood casette player, and agree it is a POS. But, I now have a USA-5 and it sounds great! I had the same good speakers for both, and I couldn't believe how good my Chicago CD sounded with the new one! As far as service, they were fine. They sent the angled wire no charge and trusted me to send the straight one back, which I did right away. Then when I had a problem with the 6-CD changer, I sent it back and they replaced it no problems. Joe
I wouldn't have been so mad about the sound quality, but shortly after I bought my unit for 300 bucks, the EXACT same Kenwood (with non-vette shaft spacing) went on sale at Circuit City or Best Buy (can't remember which) for 99 bucks. So...200 dollars to move the shafts out a few inches to save my precious 150 dollar bezel. What a joke.
I have the USA-5 also. Came from Corvette America. And as I said above it is OK, not marvellous, but for 25W x 4 you have to expect that. There must have been a date when something changed if earlier units were not up to snuff. Perhaps the manufacturers will reply with a suggested upgrade to the units. I must say that pounding on them at their web site is a bit much. I have never been an advocate of vendor bashing unilaterally. I am sure that given the chance they will respond as to performance enhancements. I look forward to hearing from them! More vendors will do so. They can contact me by e-mail if they wish.
They are very LOW quality with poor, poor sound. I bought one when I got my car a few years ago because I didn't want to mod the interior....since that time, I have changed to 17" wheels, took the 454 out an put a custom stroked BBC, etc. Needless to say, I am going to sell mine on eBay when I take it out this winter and put a Alpine in, like I should have from the beginning.
