Honestly....they suck a$%. Had 2 of them. Cassete players went out in 1987. i have a complete Alpine system from the 77 going into my next Vette. did I dremel the faceplate YOUR DAMN RIGHT I DID!! If that offends buy a repo guage cluster plate for $50 and dremel it while keeping the "precious" original in a vacuum sealed container for generations to enjoy. No seriously the merits of a 3-disc, CD, MP3 player are wild. Forget C.A. and try all the new gear of the 21st century. Pics of my old system are on my webpage under interior.
Here is 2 shots the install was clean with 2 stock fitting 4x6 Boston Acoustics in the dash, custom install ALPINE deck, custom box with 2 350watt BA 6x9 and a ALPINE 250watt AMP hidden under the right cargo box, sweet setup, very rofessional and completely reversible save one $42 guage panel. Blows away most. http://temp.corvetteforum.net/c3/cal...or/index.shtml
Take this from a very happy Big block owner, don't bother with a radio!!! You won't be able to hear it anyway, and trust me once you have heard the sweet sound of massive HP you will say, what radio?
They are quite possibly the lowest quality radio built and sold by anyone!!! They are worse than the $20.00 noname radios you can buy from Homier or one of the other discount places. They Suck!! The only redeeming factor is they fit the original spot. Other than that they are junk. Personally I'd like to see the Corvette parts resellers stop carrying them. Especially since they charge premium prices for this cheap shat!
Yep! right up there w/ the worst money I've ever spent, I find I turn it on, try and tune the POS, drive for a few miles and then just turn that POS off. wish I would of read a thread like this before I bought POS like that. :U

did I mention I think they're a POS?
:iagree:
Got one in my 69. When I have time its coming back out. The factory radio sounds as good!
I bought the whole Cass/CD changer/Tuner unit. The worst sound ever. I even added a sub-woofer and power amp. Not much better. One of the biggest wastes of $500. I ever spent. Could have got a fantastic Alpine for that price and been much happier. :mad
I have one in my 1967 and it is...OK. But I had hoped for much better given the price of $299.00. But what are the options for a vertical unit? I know this is a C2 subject but if any audiophiles out there have options/advice I would appreciate hearing from you.
Some two shaft radios will allow you to redo the shaft spacing so it will fit in one of the older 68-76 bezels. The other alternative is to have the guts of your original radio replaced. I did this on the 77 and it works really well. I have an auxillary 1/8" stereo jack that I can use to play cds' mp3's or even tapes from a walkman. Its it totally stock looking and workin unit. The only limitation of the unit is the tone controls, it is limited to what the factory radio controls were. With 44 watts of power on board it does pretty good.
