Hydroboost system requires 950 psi and 2.2 gpm. This higher velocity pump also creates more boost in the rack. The tuned pumps that speed direct offers do not have enough pressure to run the Hydroboost according to them. I have also sent an email to Hydroboost to hear from them directly as I have both systems and am looking for a solution.
I just ordered the bracket kit from Corvette Central. I will need the Steeroids BB kit and your pump. How much does your pump cost and does that include the pulley? Thanks
BBshark, Our pump does not come with a pulley. The price for the pump is $115.
For all those running a hydroboost or are planning to, this is what we know. The two systems have differing pump needs. In order to get the best road feel we can the steering system needs 800-900 psi and under 2 GPM (gallons per minute). The hydroboost needs at least 950 psi and 2.2 GPM. Now, the GPM isn't a big deal but the pressure is. We are trying to formulate a plan so that both systems can work well with each other. While we haven't tried this yet (because we don't have a hydroboost on our test car) a possible solution would be to run a pressure regulator between the hydroboost and the steering rack. That way the hydroboost will get the pressure it needs and the rack pressure can then be reduced to a level that gives the best feel.
Heidt's offers a pressure regulator that should work. http://www.heidts.com/heip27.htm#power
This may be a reasonable solution but as I said, we haven't had an opportunity to try this yet.
We can provide a pump that is tuned for the hydroboost system but it will be different from our standard pump for just the Steeroids.
Well, I'm going to wait the few extra months. I've looked the budget over numerous times and tried moving things around, etc., but I'm just not going to be able to swing it until spring. Eric is probably wondering if I'm ever going to buy the system. But I do plan on installing it, no doubt about it.
Rather than stretching out the GP we are actually considering moving it up. It seems that Mike and Steve are ready to go and we feel that we will be able to bring in a few more if we run this for maybe 3 weeks. In fact, we want to kickstart the GP by offering an additional discount of $40 if you order before the end of next week! So, if you place your order between now and before the end of the business day of Nov. 14th we will sell the kit for $978 (plus tax for TX). After the 14th the normal GP price of $1018 ($985 + $33 s&h) will be in effect.
Although we will have other GP's I think this is a deal that probably won't come along again so take advantage of it. For those that want to stretch the GP out I think it's better if we get this one rapped up and then we can have another in the first part of the year.
Is there anything special I need to do to order via a GP, or do I just go to your site, order it and you'll take care of the rest?
Captain Morgan, Indeed! Can't you just stop eating for a couple months? I'm beginning to wonder how serious you are about this hobby. :jester Seriously, I know how budgets can go. You know how to get a hold of us.
tjl5709, yes we are considering evaluating this as part of the solution.
Steve, the only thing special you need to do is write in the "notes" section of the order form that it is the forum GP and include your forum name. We will take care of the rest. If you forget to include the note you can just call us and we can fix that.
To all involved I want to let you know that some of the kits are built to order so there can be as much as a 2 week delay from the time you order until it is shipped. Orders are beginning to come in and at the moment we have plenty in stock. This is our busy season so I wanted to keep everyone informed on what to expect.
Now a completely difertn problem.
What type of paperwork / certificate comes with the kit ?
Problem is, over here in Europe, such modifications to a car need some certification in order to be accepted. Our cars need to undergo yearly or bi-yearly governmental technical inspections and this inspector can be picky.
Have you sold this kit to Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg or France jet ?
Normally, if one modified car has been accepted , it is so much easier to get all accepted.
What do you think ?
Greetings Gunther, we have sold our kit to customers in France, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and a few others that I can't recall now (perhaps Austria). On the forum there is groovyjay and Finnshark from Finland, they are both running our steering. As far as paperwork goes, we don't have anything standard but we will try to include any documentation that you might need. Just let us know how we can help.
A manual kit would be the same kit minus the hoses and adaptors and would have a discount of $80.
I already have the PS version, and am thinking of converting to manual. Does this mean that I can just disconnect all the hoses, and everything will be ok? There is enough lubrication like that?
Yes aharte, just disconnect the hoses, flush all the fluid out of the r&p unit by turning the wheels lock-to-lock several times (with the front wheels off the ground) and plug the ports on the rack. The rack gear itself is lubricated with grease, not ps fluid, and the seals in the power assist components will be lubricated by the residual fluid in the rack.
It looks like I'm in the same boat as Avery is. :( I'd like to get the Steeroids for my 74 but the budget just won't allow it this year. I too will have to wait for next year.
