I am in, all the way! I do need the big block setup though. Will we be able to order different kits for BB and SB?

The swap is boltin... you will just probably have to buy the BB version.... but I would contact Speed direct and ask them about which unit to buy.

Mark me as a definite. My drive home to my new house on a winding road made me realize my steering is extremely scary. Drives like a boat.

I do have one question, since I've been fighting a leaking oil pan recently, I've had to take my linkage apart to remove the pan, will I have to remove the whole rack to get to the oil pan now? I haven't seen any pictures looking straight up at the engine, so it's hard to tell if it sits in front of or below the pan. What's involved in removing the oil pan on a a big block after installing one of these units?

Thanks.

I'll keep an eye on this thread. If you get hung up at 9 definites, I'll join. I really can't afford right now. I was thinking sometime after the first of the year, but I'll swing it now if you need me to make the GP happen.

Did anyone ever come up with a solution for the lack of road feel or extemly light steering feel ? I heard someone suggested adjusting toe to get more feel back into the steering with the steeroids. Thanks.

Moss

I would say adjusting toe might help but could cause detrimental effects on tire wear.

For the 13 years I drove my vette, My steering was always lacking feedback... so For me it won't be a change.

Captain.... Maybe we can extend the GP time period into the new year with Speed direct's approval. Maybe a late November to early January order Window? I know the feeling about the $... Just got my bonus and the longer it sits in the bank the more chance I have of spending on something logical(like paying off student loans)

Also, I don't have power steering and was planning on keeping my unit manual, is there a discount for going power-less?

Steve, do a search for the previous group purchase thread from a few months ago. The issue of remaining manual steering was brought up, and it didn't appear to be any big deal per Speed Direct. Don't know about a further discount though...

Anyone know if the Steeroids is 2.3/2.5 turns or 2.7/2.9 for full rack travel?

Also, what is the total travel of the rack?

Their website states that it is approx. 2.75 turns lock to lock.

Default sounds good if...

Funny. I just emailed them for info before logging on to the forum. Maybe they can just respond here. My questions were 1. what was the rack and pinion unit originally designed for and 2. I read that the system was supposed to clear all aftermarket headers but in the january 2003 issue of Corvette Fever they had an article detailing the installation that required dimpling the headers to make them fit. I don't really want to take a hammer to a brand new $1000 set of headers. If it will fit with no problems count me in as a definate.

Hermit, Nothing in this life is ever definite. You might have to dimple the headers or shim the rack down or it might bolt in without a problem.

As for what the rack was originally designed for, I'll leave that to Speed direct if they want to answer that question.

Let me know when you figure everything out.
