ok...cam is in....i had to get a new timing belt so i went with a double roller set up......now its all on and the cam gear dial is set at 6 oclock and the crank gear is set at 4degree advance and set at 12 oclock......now how to i set its timing and do the valve lash? im not real sure on the next steps in this process....if anyone knows what the proceedure is id sure like some help...thank you
Biggest help I can offer is tell you to get a book on eng rebilding, a invaluable tool during the process, this is assuming your do not have one already. I am not sure you want to adv/retard the cam since most have a certain degree of adv built in, check the cam card. When lining up the dots on the gears they should come together when rotating, not a biggie if they are 180 degrees off but it makes it easier to tell if you are a tooth off if they are right next to each other.
Whatever you do..... do not use the "twisty turny" method.
Spinning the pushrod until it "resists" turning for an adjustment method can cause severe engine damage.
Each lifter can have a different threshold based on the internal clearances and amount of oil inside.
I have seen pistons that hit the valves due to people using the "twisty turny" method.... because one or more lifters didn't bind the pushrod until the plunger was depressed way beyond the operation limit of the lifter.
Follow the service procedure.... but instead of turning the pushrod.... wiggle it GENTLY up and down while adjusting the clearance to 0, and then another 1/2 - 1 turn as required.
If you have solid lifters... then just follow the procedure (order) and then do it again when the engine is running & hot.
I'm sure someone will post the order.... I gotta go now.
