You had better beef the rest of the drive train. You will spit the stock rear out if you run any kind of tire. Slicks will require some major money in the rear.

Dont know what you will be running in the quarter but you will certainly be running some red lights unless you get some stoppie for that beast.

Your transmission is going to be only one small worry. The stock IRS isn't going to take that kind of power without some serious mods. Check out what Van Steel has to offer (they're a supporting vendor) and see what they say about that kind of power with slicks at the strip... In my opinion you should be able to run 10's with less than 700HP, but I'm sure if you ask around you can find someone who's really doing it. I'm hoping to be in the 11s with a ~450HP 383 and a ~150 shot of nitrous oxide... Stock IRS won't take that either, so I probably won't run on the track for some time after I've got everything setup...

are you buying a crate engine or are you building it or having someone build it. If your building it you could spray more than that though :steering:

AR is building it for me... I probably could spray more, but to start with, I'm really only going for ~100HP... I don't have the time/money to mod my IRS a whole bunch and don't really want to leave parts on the track since I don't have a trailer to get my car to and from the track on  If you want to check out the specs for my engine build, you can look at:
http://corvette.ficker.net/engine_spec.php

What's not there is the comp ratio (10:1), and the pistons are probe forged... External balance, yada, yada... I'll probably step up to a 73 nitrous and 82 Fuel (150+HP) setup at some point, but I don't have a fancy ignition that will let me retard the timing, so I'll have to tune it for power when I'm planning on making it, then change it back... A bit annoying. Enough excuses? One more... This is also my first time ever playing with a "performance" engine setup, so I'm relatively new and don't want to make any stupid mistakes.

Well, I'll be the first to tell you it's not as easy throwing a hot motor in a stock car and run"10"s". It takes a lot more than Horsepower to run low numbers at the strip. I'd imagine a 1,000hp boosted small-block is capable, but longevity comes into play as well. Getting a small block 383 to reliable 1,000hp under $10K may be tight, you would need quality parts not counting a deadicated fuel system.

You would need:
suspesnsion upgrade
Rear End
gears
tranny
halfshafts
drive shafts
radiator
slicks

If you can get the 1,000hp and it holds you will need to install at least a 6pt. cage in the car to run 10's more than once (NHRA rules)

Best of luck

I'm telling you, if you plan to stick with the IRS (or even change it), you're in for some serious spending. It'll cost you several thousand to handle the kind of power you're talking about. Corey is right, it's not easy to just slap this all together and run 10's (at least not for the budget minded). The rear setup done properly will easily cost you the price of a built transmission plus some... Only reason I know is because I'd like to work on my rear end after my engine swap:D

EDIT: Oh yeah, if you hit 1000HP, I think you'll be leaving 10s long behind if you can hook up and don't break parts. With that kind of power, you will find the weak links :D

:iagree: I'll be running a 525hp 383 with probably a 100 or 150 nitrous shot. To handle this power I'll be going to a complete Tom's Diff's rearend setup ($5k+), a ROD 6 speed ($3k) and complete Be Cool cooling system ($1k). So those parts alone not including the motor or nitrous will run me almost $10k. You always have to remember the old saying, "speed costs money, how fast do you want to go?" :D
