IT CONSISTS OF SCAT CAST CRANK, 5140 I-BEAM RODS, K-B HYPERUTECTIC PISTONS, SPEED PRO RINGS AND M77 BEARINGS...THIS KIT IS GOOD FOR ABOUT 450HP....Or so they say. This is the basic kit for $1000 CAN. Are there any upgrades that i should be looking at or will this be fine. Will be picking out the heads and cam this weekend :banghead:
6.0 inch rods, and a complete balance job that consists of having everything balanced as a unit. crank, rods, balancer, flexplate/flywheel, pistons, rings, wrist pins and even the timing gear. if it is in the lower end rotating assembly or connected, have it balanced as a unit. beware of low cost kits similar to what you are looking at, inorder to save cost they cut corners, like balance jobs. i like Eagle stuff, it has a good blend of quality at a reasonable price. Brian
I agee with the balance job. I would buy the flexplate and balancer and have them do the balancing to be sure there's no mismatch of parts. This will eliminate pulling the engine to re balance, and the inevidable finger pointing sure to follow. :yesnod:
I got my rotating assembly, pistons, rods, crank, rings bearings, balancer, flexplate, all balanced for just over $1000.US and it's smooth as silk to 6500 rpms.
Thanks brain. I am going to have the engine balanced as i have 5 months of winter to build this motor and its better to take my time and do it right. This is my first rebuild so i will be taking it slow. There seems to be some difference of opinons of the keith black piston. Should i go to Speed-Pro forged or is KB good enough for for the under 400hp.
Riley,
either piston is good. you do not need the forged pistons for 400 hp. if you plan on a nitious shot in the future, then i would run some JE/SRP or Speed Pro pistons that are forged and have a high silicon content. the added silicon gives good heat reflection and keeps the pistons from swelling as much with the added heat. that in turn allows for tighter piston/cylinder wall clearences. if you are going to be going crazy with nitious or a blower, you may even considder ceramic coated pistons, good luck and enjoy, Brian
