Is it Advisable to mix Prestone Anti Freeze with the Dex-Cool coolant.
This is in my 98 Olds. Intrique and it still has the original coolant in it .
Do you guys think the coolant will be OK for a West Virginia winter . It was like 28 out this morning and I know it will get a lot colder ..
Thanks in advance..
Not supposed to mix them without a complete system flush or the two create a "gel" that causes havoc on your system. Do a search in the Archives on "dexcool"...
If you mix the green and orange coolants together you will end up with a brown pile of sludge in your radiator and engine. Prestone makes a Dex-Cool approved coolant that usually costs about $8 a bottle. Dex-Cool is a better coolant than the old greeen stuff, it's supposed to last twice as long, and cause far less corrosion, especially on aluminum radiators.
Depends on which "prestone anti-freeze" you are talking about. If its the bottle that says "dex-cool approved" and is orange than yes, you can mix it with GM dex-cool. If the prestone stuff is green you'll end up with a witches brew that may well plug up your entire cooling system.
