carb base gaskets, whats the right stackup?

carb base gaskets, whats the right stackup?
I have a thick (.2) cardboard, a thin cardboard and a thin steel type gasket all stacked together. Im just wondering if it matters what order they are in and can someone tell me why so many? THX

I only have one 50 cent cheapie, works fine, maybe the previous owner put a new one on every time he took the carb off :lol:

sounds like you have the remnants of a heat shield kit. the order is not important, except that every metal surface must touch a paper one. running several metal and fiber gaskets Brian

Forgot to mention I have stock Qjet setup.

If you have the "smiley-faced" exhaust crossover forward of your primary throttle bores, you have to use the 3-piece gasket set, and installed sequence is of great importance. The high-temp composite gasket with the groove goes down forst, followed by the stainless steel heat shield, and then a 4-hole gasket with the "bulge" on the driver's side goes down last with the carb on top.
