This years winter project will be replacing all 8 body mounts. Would I be
smart to purchase a body mount lift kit or use a 2x4 and large pry bar.
Has anyone used the urethane bushings, or are the rubber bushings
best to use?
Well i am just getting my body mounts welded on this weekend. #1 and #4 where alittle rusted so i replaced them. So as for lifting your car i would go and get the body lift kit. Your other choice would be to have 6 or so friends over to help in the lift.Use rubber bushings for the body is what i have been told , so rubber is what i got.
If everything is in good condition and not rusted out like mine was you can lift one side at a time with a floor jack and a 2X4 to replace them. The poly mounts will be stiffer and give you a slightly rougher ride but either will be better than wht you have now. Check my web page for what you need to do. If you decide to lift the body off maybee you can borrow my straps. Send me a E-mail.

Re: body mounts (vette 77)
I had poly mounts installed in my GTO and hated it. Road like a tank. Lanes bumps felt like potholes. I plan to use rubber mounts in my C3 but will coat them liberally with silicone grease to prolong life. ;)
Vette77,
I put new body mounts in my 81 this past summer. It was an easy job. If you want you can e-mail me at rcooper1@hvc.rr.com and I will give you step by step directions. I don't want to put it on here because its kind of long.
I wonder how much difference the type of body mount can make. Mine are much harder that urethane or rubber, being just a solid bit of 1/2 inch aluminum. These were used up until I can't remember when.

68-72 used solid mounts. 73 and up rubber. I switched my 71 to rubber mounts and I'm glad I did. Much less road noise, better ride and slightly better hood clearance (rubber mounts are thicker).
I wrote a step-by-step guide which is posted in the C3 tech section of the forum. I used a weekend to do it, but I took it easy.
I used the rubber body mount kit. It comes with all of the hardware and shims. Almost all of my cars rattles and noises are gone now. I was expecting to have to spend alot of time shimming but when I sat the body down on the mounts the load seemed pretty even on all of them and the doors still fit good so I did not have to shim at all. Hopefully I wont have any problems by not shimming but I dont see a reason to if the load feels pretty even with the weight of the body.
