Under Hood Temperatures?
Has anybody measured under hood (carb inlet) temperatures? I'm trying to determine potential performance gains by running cold air to the carb. I have a small block with uncoated headers.

I found that wrapping my headers really cut down on underhood temperatures. Then I got carried away and put my carbs way up in the air.

My fuel injection system measures intake air temp. With outside air around 80 degrees the intake air was measureing around 111. That's cruising with an open cowl induction hood. (no electronic flapper) I don't have any sort of mechanism that keeps my engine breathing only through the cowl so some underhood air is being used. I would guesstimate that on a warm summer day a header-equipped car would see underhood temps in the 145 degree range. I base that just on how things (hoses, brake booster) feel after driving. Hot enough to be very uncomfortable but not enough to cause a burn.
