Default Intake help for the Rat

I would like to make my BB look like and function like the L-88, what type of intake will work best? I currently have a GM aluminum high rise intake and would like to change. My heads are rectangular port. Thanks

I took a LS6 high rise factory intake, ported it extensively to match the heads , machined the divider part way down like the L88' s did and run it with a 850 double pumper carb.
In a effort to inprove the combination I bought a Victor Junior 454 single plane and hated it. I lost power everywhere especially the top end charge to 7500.
The factory intake is better then people give it credit for.
I have the victory junior in the cupboard with a built in cheater nitrous system, the spray bars are imbeded in the intake and the solenoids mount on the intake for short lines and hard hitting.
I would loan it to you to try and if you like it give you a good deal on it. The nitrous must come with it since it is built in. Only thing missing is the bottle.

Buy an L-88 intake on Ebay. They're only about $3-400. :yesnod: Redvetrcr might still have one for sale.

You can mill down your center divider 3/4" like the factory did and be sure and get a Holley list number #4296 850 double pumper with the proper distribution tabs on the boosters to correct for the milled down divider (the factory did things RIGHT.) The best intake in my humble opinion is a Edelbrock Performer RPM air gap high rise. You absolutley need to run the L-88 hood and PLEASE do not cut out the fresh air plenum to fit a Taiwann aircleaner assembly but get the correct AC base, foam seal, and plenum filter assembly (check with Paragon or other suppliers.) Look on Ebay for deals on intakes and Holley list #4781 850 double pumpers (or buy new Holley/Grant carb if you don't have rebuild skills, you will need to tune so, get book on carb tuning.)

Any way to make my existing Holley 850 carb work? Have heard that the rear pumper arm gets in the way with the L-88 base air cleaner?

Unless you have a solid lifter camshaft, square port intakes and heads with a 850 Holley will not be the correct combination. These are HIGH RPM parts. :D
