i would change the intake-to-head gaskets with new and RTV Ultra Black the valley ends instead of using the rubber spacer gaskets. leaky intake gaskets are a pain and cause all kinds of problems. i think of new as cheap insurance. Brian
You definitly want to use new gaskets. Also put a thin layer of RTV ultra black around the end ports of both sides of the gaskets to insure a good seal around the coolant passages. How would you like doing that job twice because you didn't. I don't know about you, but I like to do thing once. Buy new gaskets!!!
I just put the intake manifold on my tri-power yesterday, twice. I thought for a change I would try the rubber end gaskets again just to see if they would stay put. After torqueing everything down nicely, low and behold the rear one had squeezed out. So, off comes the intake and in the garbage go the rubber end gaskets. After a 1/4 in bead of silicone gasket sealer, everything looks fine. Just my .02 cents. One of these days I will learn.
I learned the hard way too. Tried the rubber block gasket....blew it out on the first trip over 4K RPM. Buy new gaskets, and give the rubber to the dog to chew.
