Sure, you can make the torque easier in a big block due to the big heads but with what's available in the aftermarket for smallblock heads, it's pretty easy to support the air flow.
True, but in the end mod for mod the Big Block will make more power, it's all in the heads. Big Block heads allow for larger valves and flow more air. Thus end the end the Big Block will make more power and be less radical doing it.

[QUOTE]Cappy did you get your 427 dialed in yet? How about the roll bars?

George,
I have not installed roll bars yet.....and still awaiting time on the dyno. When I'm ready they are not...and when they are ready, I can't get the car in to them.
We are still trying to fine tune the fuel issue.....seems fuel pressure is low at top end so I cranked it up to 8 psi. Started at 5 psi and working up slowly.
Tomorrow I'll do another high speed run to see if she falling off....I should get a fuel pressure gauge that I can see from the drivers seat.

Cappy you can't get Maurice or Norris to sit up on the wiper valance with your hood removed to watch the pressure gauge?

I'm surprized that your having feed problems with an electric pump???

I looked at all of the above. The Ohio Crank 434 looked interesting until I started to figure out what my compression would be. The smaller head chamber sizes with a large cylinder displacement and the pistons they were using resulted in a CR in the 11's. I decided to go with a local race engine builder who is building me a 427 @ 10.5:1 CR with all top shelf racing parts.. Dart Pro1 200CC heads, roller cam, Dart Little "M" block etc. for about 8000.00. I am also swaping in a TCI Street Fighter Turbo 400 with a 2200 stall converter.

George,
Norris and Maurice..... sounds like a good idea to me.....How do we explain it to the cops??????
No problem with the fuel pump other than I may have it set too low for this engine.

KJL - IMO you need to rethink those small pro1 heads. They would even be marginal on a 383.

My project 427 will also end up right over $8000. That's just less ignition and carb. I am using the better parts

gkull,
Looking for more low end torque Com Cam recomended XE-282-HR @.050 230/236 .544/.555 w/1.6 rockers. The AFR people recomended 195's!! Comp Cam recomended the Pro1 200's. I agree with you, they seem small.
Are you going dual plan or single?
Thanks!

KJL - IMO stay away from Comp Cams. The biggest problem with them is what they call a small base circle cam really isn't when compared against a Crane small base circle. My last crane cams were .900 & .930 diameter Comp cams were both 1.050 inches in diameter. That's a whole 1/10th of an inch that has to be ground out of your expensive H-Beam 4340 rods.

Double click on my above DD2000 - Then look at the foot pounds of TQ graph - Then explain to me why you want some cam to regain low end TQ? Then also compare your heads against the intake CC and valve size that's run on a typical hot rodded big block. Or better the CFM of are flow

I have not used a dual plane manifold in 14+ years even on my small 350 ci motors. You can't run a smaller manifold port than your head port.
